Good GIS can provide enormous benefits to ports because infrastructure is so critical to their efficient operation. The problem, though, is that most of them are CAD based and aren't really interested in messing with GIS. At the same time, a good GIS can extend the CAD data enhance productivity and get the data to the people who make decisions based on the data. For example, a seaport may need to decide if their current lighting meets standards set by the federal government. How do we do it? Simple.
