what is gis?
What is GIS? – GIS connects computer data to places on a map, thusly connecting you to better decisions.
For any organization, quality data should be considered essential. Data should be looked over frequently in order to increase efficiency and profitability. Most institutional data (80% plus) has a spatial component, which means it can be referenced to a point, a location, on the earth's surface. GIS allows users to manage and manipulate these data electronically. Information is displayed on what amounts to a map of many layers. These maps and other analysis tools often reveal trends, patterns, and insights not apparent from traditional tables and charts. Thus, decisions can be made more easily, with more assurance.
